Well, Showdowns have consequences
X-post from Books on Deck blog that’s relevant to Technology and Internet culture.
If you haven’t checked out the first part of my post, check it out here. Comedian Jim Norton and Jezebel columnist Lindy West debated over whether or not sensitive topics like rape should be off limits for comedians to joke about. Although I don’t believe that comedians should ever be restricted or stifled in their ability to make jokes as long as they are jokes, I do believe that comedians should be mindful of their delivery and intent when making them.
However, not everyone out there on the internet attempted to respectfully disagree with Lindy’s opinion on what’s “too far” for comedians. Some internet users went as far as harassing West via twitter and making derogatory remarks and threats towards her. West, some time after the debate wrote that “detractors have been “threatening to rape and kill me, telling me I’m just bitter because I’m too fat to get raped, and suggesting that the debate would have been better if it had just been Jim raping me.”

The Amazing Atheist, if you don’t already know him is an opinionated, and loud guy that isn’t afraid to speak his mind on various social, and political issues. Even at the expense of various dissenters. You can say that he is a very polarizing figure. A while back he put up a video ripping apart Feminist Video blogger Anita Sarkeesian. Although I think that Sarkeesian originally had some noble intentions, and wanted to raise a few valid questions, I find her implementation and most importantly her ideological, one side views to be off-putting, and unbalanced. However, I couldn’t fully put into words why her views and ideas rubbed me the wrong way. Here’s the Amazing Atheist’s take. Enjoy!
This video is also spot on as well too.
I currently own a Kindle Touch. It’s a nice upgrade from my 2nd gen Kindle keyboard. It’s great. It does the job with it’s e-ink display display, while not putting any strain on my eye. But it’s a one trick pony. And I mean that in the best way possible. It does an excellent job as an e-reader.
